History of the route

The track as the course line

The distance between the stations of Aulnay -sous -Bois and Bondy was built in 1875 as a link between two major routes which led from Paris to the north and east. Operator was initially a local company, but this was taken after three years of the company Chemin de Fer de l' Est and later was transferred to the successor company SNCF.

In 1962 the line was electrified on the southern part. In the early 1990s, the RER line E was created, this line lost much of its appeal. As then, utilization fell below 10,000 passengers per day, the SNCF introduced in December 2003 the operation.

Tram service

It was decided to convert the route for tram operation and thus to create the first tram-train line in France. Already in June 2004 began the restoration work: The road has been renewed, demolished the platforms and newly built for the tram service and made the route through two lanes.

Today's track is 7.9 km long, has 11 stops and connects six communities together. The maximum speed allowed is 70 km / h in urban areas it is limited to 50 km / h and at intersections even 30 km / hr.

Commissioning for the public was on 20 November 2006.

In Aulnay -sous -Bois is following the line RER B, in Bondy at the RER E.

Stops

Special

In contrast to the other Parisian tram lines, the line is not operated by the public transport company RATP 4, but by the railway company SNCF, which is already visible on the color of the trains ( RATP: light green / white). The trains run on railway lines and are supplied with the usual in France for trains voltage of 25 kV. On the other hand is moved on the line 4 on the right, like the case of trams and not common to the left, for which trains (as well as the RER) applicable in France. As trams run " on sight ", ie there is no traffic control with railway signals.
