Ivanovo

Ivanovo (Russian Иваново ) is a Russian city in the Ivanovo Oblast. It is located 250 km (airline ) northeast of Moscow and has 408 330 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

History

The town of Ivanovo in 1561 was the first mentioned in the 17th century, it had developed into a trading town. Tsar Peter the Great ordered in 1710 to the establishment of textile mills and recruited Dutch craftsmen and entrepreneurs to set up factories according to Ivanovo. In 1825 there were already 125 factories in and around Ivanovo. With the opening of the first textile printing factory in 1787, the cotton mill 1838 Ivanovo developed into a center of the textile industry and the labor movement, and was called Russian Manchester. After the union with the village Voznesensky Posad ( Вознесенский Посад ) the city was called from 1871 to 1932 Ivanovo- Vosnessensk ( Иваново - Вознесенск ). The official awarding of municipal rights was on 30 August 1873. At this time, the population was about 11,000. Ivanovo was one of the centers of the revolution of 1905, here was the first workers' council ( Soviet ). In the city the POW camp consisted of 324 German prisoners of war of World War II. Heavy sufferers were treated in Shuya 30 km away in POW Hospital 3840. Today, the city is capital of oblast with numerous administrative and cultural institutions. The most important industries are still the textile industry, along with the chemical industry and mechanical engineering. In the vernacular, the city is also called " Город невест " - "City of Brides " - named because the textile industry has attracted many young women in their heyday as workers. The closure of many companies in the textile industry in the 1990s led the city in a long economic crisis.

To date, located in Ivanovo, founded in 1933 by the International Red Aid " International Children's Home " ( Interdom ). On his 70th birthday was founded in 2003 in Portugal, the documentary Os filhos de Ivanovo, showing the history of the solidary his home and international students, based on the Portuguese José Serra, who lived here from 1968 until the Carnation Revolution in 1974. The German film Interdom the Iraqi director Nasir Al- Jezairi from 2006 deals with the unifying device.

Attractions

Other attractions include the Ivanovo Cotton Museum and the Art Museum, where among other numerous iconic paintings are to be seen. In all the city's art, from Baroque can be found to the present day. Of particular interest is the large collection of buildings of constructivism to the very beautiful buildings of this period include the opera theater in the city. Also, the Art Nouveau style is located in Ivanovo in very beautiful shapes. The city was the seat of many noble families and that's why there are countless magnificent palaces and villas here.
