Jan Kodeš

January Kodeš (* March 1, 1946 in Prague ) is a former Czechoslovak tennis player.

He won at the beginning of the 1970s, three Grand Slam tournaments.

Kodeš ' first great triumph was on the clay court of Roland Garros in Paris at the French Open. He won there in 1970, when he 6:2, 6:4 and 6:0 beat Željko Franulović. The following year he defended against Ilie Năstase his title before he won in 1973 on grass at Wimbledon. First he posted a victory in the semi-final against Roger Taylor and sat down in the subsequent final against Aleksandre Metreweli by. Kodeš could these victories in Paris and Wimbledon no longer repeat, at the Australian Open, he has never competed. At the U.S. Open in New York, he was in the years 1971 and 1973 respectively in the final.

His highest ranking position placement was 4 in September 1973, he won a total of eight single and 17 doubles titles. In 1990 he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. He also got a fair play award from the Czech Olympic Committee.
