Jared Spurgeon

Jared Spurgeon ( born November 29, 1989 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player standing since 2010 with the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League contract. His brother Tyler Spurgeon is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Jared Spurgeon began his career as a hockey player with the Spokane Chiefs, for by 2010 he was active from 2005 in the Canadian junior Western Hockey League. With his team he won in the 2007/ 08 season the first Ed Chynoweth Cup, the championship of the WHL, and then the Memorial Cup. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 in the sixth round as a total of 156 players from the New York Islanders, for whom he never played, however. Instead, the defender signed in September 2010 a contract as a free agent with the Minnesota Wild. In the season 2010/11 he made his debut for the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League. In his rookie year, he scored four goals in 53 games and eight assists. In parallel, he played for their farm team Houston Aeros in the American Hockey League. With the Aeros, he failed only in the final of the Calder Cup to the Binghamton Senators. In the season 2011/12, the Canadian was active for the first time exclusively for the Minnesota Wild in the NHL.

For the duration of the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season the defender was obliged by the Swiss Club SCL Tigers in September 2012.
