John N. Williamson

John Newton Williamson ( born November 8, 1855 in Junction City, Lane County, Oregon; † August 29, 1943 in Prineville, Oregon ) was an American politician ( Republican). Between 1903 and 1907 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Oregon in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Williamson attended the public schools of his home and then the Willamette University in Salem. After a move to Prineville he dealt with the livestock. Between 1886 and 1888 Williamson was also sheriff in Crook County.

Between 1888 and 1898 was Williamson MP in the House of Representatives from Oregon; 1900 to 1902 he was a member of the State Senate. In 1902 he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, where he replaced Malcolm A. Moody on March 4, 1903. After a re-election in 1904, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1907 two legislative sessions. In 1906 he declined to run again. This was also due to his conviction in 1905 together for involvement in Oregon Country Fraud Scandal. In 1908, this judgment was lifted by the Supreme Court of the United States.

After the end of his time in Congress Williamson was back in agriculture, and especially in cattle breeding, works. Between 1922 and 1934 he was postmaster in Prineville. After he retired finally back from the public service. He died in August 1943. He was married to Sarah Forrest, with whom he had three children.
