Malcolm A. Moody

Malcolm Adelbert Moody ( born November 30, 1854 in Brownsville, Linn County, Oregon, † March 19, 1925 in Portland, Oregon ) was an American politician ( Republican). Between 1899 and 1903 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Oregon in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1855, Malcolm Moody moved with his parents to Illinois. Already in 1862 the family returned to Oregon, where they settled in The Dalles. There he attended the public schools. Later he studied at the University of California at Berkeley. In The Dalles Moody was involved in trade. He also worked as a cashier at the " The Dalles National Bank".

Between 1885 and 1889, Moody was a member of the municipal council of The Dalles. In 1889, he was elected mayor of this place. This post he held for two terms. Between 1888 and 1898 he was on the board of the Republican Party in Oregon. In advance of the midterm elections of 1898 he was able to prevail within his party against the MPs William R. Ellis and accept his post in Congress after the actual election.

Between March 4, 1899, the March 3, 1903 Malcolm Moody was able to complete two terms in Congress. Due to internal party problems, he was not nominated again in 1902. Instead of him, then John N. Williamson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After the end of his service in Washington Moody again devoted his business in The Dalles. Malcolm Moody died in March 1925 after a long illness in Portland.
