Kalomira

Kalomoira (Greek Καλομοίρα, born January 31, 1985 in West Hempstead, New York; actually Marie Carol Sarantis ), alternative transcription Kalomira, is a Greek- American singer. She represented Greece at the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade.

Life

Kalomoira was born in 1985 as Marie Carol Sarantis in the U.S. state of New York. The daughter of two Greek- American restaurant owner grew up in Nassau County on together with her sister. Already in her youth, Kalomoira keen for the music. She played viola for nine years and appeared in the school's theater and musical productions in which she sang and danced. First success paved the "Homecoming Queen " of her high school, a second prize in a music competition organized by the local radio station WBLI radio. Small appearances in television shows followed suit, where Sarantis occurred alongside well-known American artists such as Jessica Simpson or LL Cool J. Later she studied for a semester at the prestigious Adelphi University in her hometown.

The breakthrough as a musician stood for a Sarantis at the age of 19, when she took part in New York in the competition for talent show Fame Story 2, the Greek version of Fame Academy. Although she only spoke English, she was selected under two hundred participants and went to Greece. There Sarantis was known by the three-month casting show a wide television audience and interpreted both songs by Greek artists such as Marinella and international artists, including Barbra Streisand ( Woman in Love ), Madonna (La Isla Bonita ) and Britney Spears ( Oops! ... I Did It again). With a Greek song and the title Madonna Express Yourself Sarantis finally won the prize of 200,000 Euros finals of Fame Story 2 for themselves.

The victory at Fame Story 2 was followed by a record deal with the Greek label Heaven Music, as well as the first album Kalomoira (2004), titled after the Greek version of her name Marie Carol, under which it occurs since then. For the album, which contained both Greek and English titles, the singer received a gold record and a prize for best young singer. A tour in Greece with the rest of the casting candidates, as well as cooperation with such well-known Greek artists such as Despina Vandi, Elli Kokkinou Constantinos Christoforou or followed. A year later Kalomoira released her second album Paizeis? ( Παίζεις, 2005), in which she was complicit in lyrics and music. 2006 was followed by their third album, I Kalomoira pai sinema ( Η Καλομοίρα πάει σινεμά ) containing modernized pieces of music from classical Greek films.

End of 2007, the Greek state broadcasting station ERT Kalomoira chose as an official candidate for the Greek preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest 2008 (ESC ) in Belgrade. With the English R & B number Secret Combination, from the eponymous 2008 released album, she won the final on 27 February 2008 against Kostas Martakis and the singer chrispa, in which the mixed verdict of a jury and the viewers chose the winner. A tour of several European countries joined Kalomoiras victory before they occurred on 20 May 2008 as the last contestant of the first semi-final of the Euro Vision Song Contest in Belgrade. There, she managed to place themselves among the top ten posts, which meant the collection in the four days later held ESC finals, where she finished in third place behind the Russian winner Dima Bilan and the Ukraine's Ani Lorak.

In addition to the musical career, the 1.57 meter tall singer performed in the past as a presenter in appearance. As an actress she has appeared in, among others, the Greek television series I Lampsi ( 2004).

On September 26, 2010, she married George Bousalis in Saint Paul Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hempstead, New York. On December 14, 2012, she brought male twins named Demetri and Niko to the world.
