Karl Schöchlin

Karl F. Schöchlin (* June 13, 1894; † 7 November 1974) was a Swiss rower, the 1928 Olympic champion in pairs with coxswain.

Karl Schöchlin had occupied together with William Walter at the European Championships in 1920 in double sculls second place behind the French boat. Together with his brother Hans, he triumphed in this boat class in 1922 at the European Championships in Barcelona. Then they switched to Sweep Rowing and occupied at the European Championships in 1923 and 1924 respectively as members of the Swiss rowing eight ranks second, 1925 in Prague, she won the title. For this aft then a four with coxswain, who won in 1926 in the occupation Schöchlin, Schöchlin, Paul Kaeser, Wilhelm Wippermann and Theophil Mosimann at the European Championships in Lucerne silver behind the Italians formed. 1927 in Como went to the boat with Julien Comtesse instead Wippermann and again won silver behind the Italians.

At the Olympic Games in 1928 on a canal in Amsterdam, the brothers Schöchlin started in two with coxswain with the only 14 -year-old Hans Bourquin. There were two boats in the KO system against each other, but you could get stuck after a defeat on the repechage. In the first round, the Swiss defeated the French boat with a margin of two tenths of a second in the second round of the Italian boot. In the finals, the Swiss met again on the French brothers Armand and Édouard Marcelle with her helmsman Henri Préaux that had prevailed in the repechage against the Americans and then in two races against the Belgians. In the final, the Swiss had now significantly more reserves and won clearly with six seconds ahead.

1930 at the European Championships in Liege brothers Schöchlin won with Paul Kaeser and Hans Niklaus silver in four without. 1931 won these four rowers with coxswain Antoine Mambretti still with a bronze medal in the quad.
