Friedrich-Wilhelm Ulrich

Friedrich- Wilhelm Ulrich ( born October 20, 1953 in Packebusch ) is a former rower from the GDR. 1976 and 1980 Olympic champion Ulrich was in two with coxswain.

The rowers from SC Magdeburg in 1971 Junior World champion in pairs with coxswain. From 1973 to 1975 Ulrich GDR champion was in the eighth. With the aft he was European champion in 1973, 1974 and 1975 World Cup Fourth World Champion. In the fall of 1975 he formed together with Harald yearling and helmsman Georg Spohr one of two with coxswain. This boat was able to prevail in the Olympic qualification in 1976 against the reigning Olympic champion and world champion Wolfgang Gunkel, Jörg and Lucke. At the Olympic Games in 1976 yearling, and Ulrich Spohr were clearly superior and won with nearly three seconds ahead of the Soviet boat.

At the World Cup 1977, the boat was second behind the Bulgarian boat. 1978 were yearling and Ulrich in DDR aft and were in this boat world champion. The aft of 1978 was elected to the GDR to the Team of the Year. 1979 Ulrich was again champion in the eighth. At the Olympic Games in 1980 yearling, and Ulrich Spohr came again together in twos with coxswain. They won just before the Soviet boat.

1976 and 1980 he was honored for his Olympic victories with the Patriotic Order of Merit.

After his studies he sports coach was at SC Magdeburg. In 1989, he fled to the West and became country coach at Saarland Rowing Association.
