The Leaf River Township is one of 24 townships in Ogle County in the north of the U.S. state of Illinois.
Geography
The Leaf River Township is located in northern Illinois about 165 kilometers west of Chicago. The border with Wisconsin is located about 40 km north; the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa, is located about 70 km to the west.
The Leaf River Township is located at 41 ° 09'31 " north latitude and 89 ° 23'24 " west longitude and extends over 92.5 km ².
The Leaf River Township is located in the north of Ogle County and is bordered to the northwest by the Stephenson and on the northeast by the Winnebago County. Within the Ogle County, the Leaf River Township is bordered on the east by the Byron Township, to the southeast by the Rockvale Township, to the southwest by the Mount Morris Township and on the west by the Maryland Township.
Traffic
In East-West direction, the Illinois State Route 72 runs through the south of the township. All other roads are County highways and further subordinate and partly unpaved roadways.
In parallel to State Route 72 runs through the Leaf River Township railway line of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which runs from Chicago to the west.
The nearest airport is about 6 km south of the township located Ogle County Airport. The nearest major airport is around 30 km east of the township located Chicago Rockford International Airport.
Population
In the census in 2010, the township had 1137 inhabitants. In addition to scattered settlements exist within the Leaf River Township two settlements:
