Leona Lewis

Leona Louise Lewis ( born April 3, 1985 in Islington, London) is a British singer and songwriter. She won the third season of the British singing talent show The X Factor in December 2006. A year later her get both with the song Bleeding Love and her debut album Spirit international number - one hits.

Life

Leona Lewis was born the second of three children of the couple, Joe and Maria Lewis and grew up in Hackney, north London. Her father is from the Caribbean, her mother from Wales.

At the age of twelve years, Leona Lewis wrote her first song at age 13, she won the Lady D talent competition in the Hackney Empire. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the London School for Performing Arts & Technology. Even before their participation in The X Factor, she took a first album entitled Twilight, which was never published until now.

Career

Career beginning and international breakthrough (2006-2008)

In the summer of 2006 Lewis participated in an audition for the third season of the talent show The X Factor in part. Supported by her mentor Simon Cowell, she managed a place in the final show on 16 December 2006., Where she won against their rivals Raymond Quinn and received a worth one million pounds sterling record deal with Sony BMG. Of the votes over eight million votes accounted for 60 percent to Leona Lewis. Second studio album Echo (2009-2010)

In October 2009, Lewis' biography Dreams was released by the London publisher Hodder & Stoughton. Lewis' second album Echo was released on November 13, 2009 in Germany and on 16 November 2009 in the UK. The first single Happy reached number two on the British and Austrian charts, number three in the German charts and fourth in the Swiss charts. The album, like its predecessor the top spot in the UK album charts. On the album had, among other Ryan Tedder and Justin Timberlake. The second official single I Got You from the album Echo was published in mid- March 2010.

Glass Heart and Tour (2011-2013)

The first single Collide from Lewis's third studio album, Glass Heart was released on September 2, 2011, more than a year before the album release. Lewis sang the title for the first time live in the UK game show " Red or black? ". Collide was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Remix category in 2012, but did not win the prize. On October 7, 2011 it was announced that Lewis is now with RCA Records.

Lewis' third studio album Glassheart was released on October 12th, 2012. In the UK it reached number three on the album charts. The second single from the album, the single Trouble was released in October 2012. It reached number seven of the singles charts in the UK. The third single from the album was 2012 's Lovebird in November. In Germany the album on 18 January 2013, and reached number six in the German charts appeared.

Beginning in December 2012, it was announced that in 2013 a European tour is planned with Lewis. In April 2013, it also saw the first concerts in Germany.

Since 2013: Christmas, with Love

Christmas, with Love is Leona Lewis' first Christmas album, released on 29 November 2013. The first single is One More Sleep and was released on November 5, 2013.

Other projects

In July 2009, Leona Lewis brought a named after her perfume on the market. Because of their commitment in the animal protection they so chose the German company LR Health & Beauty Systems, which performs no animal testing for the manufacturing of its products and had launched its own children's charity, the LR GLOBAL KIDS FUND eV to life. A portion of the proceeds of her perfume goes to disadvantaged children.

For the movie Avatar - Pandora Lewis sang a song I See You. It was also selected XIII My Hands as the theme song for the video game Final Fantasy.

On the initiative of Simon Cowell's Lewis took along with other artists such as Kylie Minogue, Take That and Elton John entitled Everybody Hurts by REM new on the charity single for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. The single reached the top spot of the UK singles chart.

Social Commitment

Lewis is a vegetarian and animal rights activist as occurs publicly. So she refuses to wear leather and fur products and fights the abuse of animals. Together with the WSPA World Animal Society they committed to a world-wide animal protection declaration, which calls for international recognition of animal welfare by the United Nations. For her commitment, she drew the animal protection organization PETA as " Person of the Year 2008".
