List of Deutsche Bundesbahn locomotives and railbuses

The steam locomotive series are ordered by the series scheme of Deutsche Reichsbahn, the electric, diesel and small locomotive series, and to railcars and rail service vehicle series are arranged according to the schema of the DB series. Already before 1968 completely decommissioned series are classified under their name by the discontinued by the German Federal Railroad until the end of 1967 numbering scheme. For combustion railcars had introduced a new designation system in the late 1940s, which, however, was only valid in the Western zones, ie the area of ​​the later DB.

Steam locomotives

The table gives in the first column to the series number of the vehicles in question, which was used for the continuing of the German Federal Railroad scheme of railroad; where appropriate digits of the serial number are listed if they are necessary for the identification of sub- series.

In the second column gives the series numbers are given according to the schema of the DB series used from 1968. If in the second column before no entry in early 1968 were already out of service all vehicles in the series.

The German Federal Railway has its last steam locomotives taken out of service in 1977 and operating steam traction until 1985 completely prohibited.

Electric locomotives

The electric vehicles of the German Federal Railways have been designed to operate with a contact wire voltage of 15 kV, 16,667 Hz.
