Maipú Department, Chaco

The department Maipú is located in the center of Chaco Province in northwestern Argentina and is one of 25 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered to the north by the Department of General Güemes, on the east by the departments Libertador General San Martín and Quitilipi, to the south by the departments Comandante Fernández and Independencia and on the west by the department of Almirante Brown.

The capital of the department of Maipú is Tres Islets. It is located 250 kilometers from the provincial capital Resistencia and 1250 km from Buenos Aires.

Population

According to estimates by the INDEC, the population of the department increased from 24,747 inhabitants (2001) to 29,655 inhabitants in 2005.
