Marjo Matikainen-Kallström

Marjo Matikainen- Tuulevi Kallstrom ( born February 3, 1965 in Lohja ) is a former Finnish cross-country skier. She has worked as a politician today.

Sports

Among her greatest achievements of Olympic victory is in the race over five kilometers in Calgary in 1988., Where she also won the bronze medal over 10 km and with the Finnish relay. With the season they won in 1984 at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo bronze.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1987 in Oberstdorf she became world champion in the 5 km and Vice World Champion over 10 kilometers. Both distances were then run in a classic style. Two years later she was in Lahti world champion in the 15 km classic style and in the 4x5 km relay and vice world champion in the 10 km free style. She devoted herself after sports career that ended at the age of 24 years, first studying engineering at the Helsinki University of Technology. She was a few years working for her school in 1992 in this profession.

Marjo Matikainen- Kallstrom from 1996 to 2004 Member of the European Parliament, she was a member of the Group of the European People's Party. Since 2003 she is a Member of the Finnish parliament and also Vice - Chairman of Kokoomus, the liberal conservative party in Finland.
