Marzhausen

Marzhausen is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Hachenburg.

Geographical location

The 300 m high municipality lies between Hachenburg and old churches on the outskirts of Kroppacher Switzerland and is agricultural. Neighboring towns are in the north Heuzert, northeast Astert, in the southeast Müschenbach and Hattert, southwest and west Mudenbach Kroppach.

History

The first documentary mention as Mertzhausen goes back to the year 1346, probably derived from the name Martin or Meinhard. 1579, the place had 9 and 1793 23 houses. To the west and north- west of the town formerly lay roof slate mines, called " Schieferkaul ". The north west location pit was already mentioned in 1685. Even before revealed Jakon, Leyendecker of Marzhausen, the church Hachenburg new; to build a watchtower 1749 Hachenburg and for the new St. Catherine's Church in 1775 Leyensteine ​​were taken from Marzhausen. The slate quarrying has been operated in the years 1840-1893. After the Second World War, all tracks have been removed.
