Merkelbach
Merkel Bach is a municipality in the Westerwald district in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Hachenburg.
Geographical location
The community lies in the Westerwald between Limburg and wins, or on the B 413 between Old Town ( Hachenburg ) in the northeast and Wied ( at Hachenburg ) and Höchstenbach in the southwest. Surrounded Merkel Bach is in the east and south by Hachenburger city forest.
History
1418 Merkel Bach was first mentioned in a document.
Merkel Bach belonged to the parish of Old Town and by the end of the 18th century the country wonderfully to the county of Sayn- Hachenburg. 1799 was the county on the Erbweg to the princes of Nassau- Weilburg. In connection with the formation of the Confederation of the Rhine was the region and thus Merkelbach 1806 at the newly built Duchy of Nassau. Under the management of Nassau Merkel Bach was assigned to the Office Hachenburg. After the annexation of the Duchy of Nassau, the place came in 1866 to the Kingdom of Prussia and was from 1868 to the province of Hesse -Nassau and Oberwesterwald circle. Since 1946, Merkel Bach is part of Rhineland- Palatinate.

The local council in Merkelbach consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 a personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The eight seats on the council are divided into two groups of voters.

Traffic
The community is located directly on the main road 413 ( near Koblenz ) leads from Bendorf to Hachenburg. The nearest motorway junctions are in Dierdorf or Neuwied on the A 3 ( Cologne - Frankfurt ). The nearest railway station is ICE Montabaur at the high-speed line Cologne-Rhine/Main. To the public transport network, the community is connected by a bus service to Hachenburg and the ICE railway station Montabaur in two- hour intervals.
