Geography

Megesheim lies in the planning region of Augsburg on the northern edge of the ream, about 4 km southeast of Oettingen in Bayern. North of the Gänsbach flows past, which flows 2.5 km to the west in the Wörnitz. To the south rises the Bächlesgraben that flow to the Gänsbach shortly before his mouth. The state road St 2214 through the town and connects it to the main road 466 and Oettingen.

History

Megesheim 893 was first mentioned in records. 1422 was the place to the County of Oettingen. Other landlords were the German Order of the Coming Oettingen, the cathedral chapter of Eichstätt and the Margrave of Ansbach ( since 1792 Prussia). While the Oettinger part belonged to the Swabian kingdom circle, the other institutions were part of the Frankish Empire circle. 1803 took over Prussia Megesheim completely.
