Atego Facelift (since 2004)

Atego is the name of a truck series of Mercedes -Benz ( Mercedes -Benz truck division ) of Daimler AG. Mercedes- internally, the new Atego as a series LKN ( Light Class new) is called. The second - generation was launched Atego 2013.

Premiere in 1998

After 14 years of construction 1998, the Atego was introduced as the successor to the LN series. First there was the new small truck series with the series four-cylinder diesel engine OM 904 LA ( 4.25 liters ) and the in-line six -cylinder OM 906 LA ( 6.37 liters ), which between 90-205 kW ( 122-279 hp) and 470-1100 Nm contributed. Right at the beginning Daimler offered the Atego with four different cabs (S, S extended, L ( 1 deck ) and L high roof (2 beds ) ) and various wheelbases between 3,020 mm and 6,260 mm at. In addition there were several forms of construction such as dump trucks, flatbed or tractor. As the gear types G42/5-5 with 5 courses, G60/6-6 and G85/6-6 with 6 courses and a 12 -speed transmission ( 6-speed basic gearbox with splitting, 1 reverse ) were available. Available tonnages were the following types: Atego 7xx (6.5 t), Atego 8xx (7.49 t), Atego 8xx ( 8.0 t), Atego 9xx (9.5 t), Atego 10xx ( 10.5 t ) Atego 12xx ( 11.99 t ) Atego 13xx ( 13.5 t) Atego 15xx (15 t), wherein x in each case instead of the two engine output is specified as a tenth.

The heavy Atego

Since the year 1998, between Actros Atego and no middle series ( today's Axor ), the Atego was also available with a higher frame and the big machines as 'serious ' road tractor. Especially for this type of Atego was introduced in 1533 and 1833 for model year 2000. Engine was the OM 926 LA, whose displacement was increased by increasing of hole ( from 102 to 106 mm ) and stroke to 7.2 l and from now on 240 kW ( 326 hp) and 1,300 Nm made .

For model year 2001 the Mercedes -Benz Axor replaced the heavy Atego series and was led from then on as a moderate range in the program. The engines of the Atego to the premiere in 1998 and the introduction of the "heavy Atego " were:

  • Atego x12: 4249 cm ³ | 90 kW ( 122 PS) | 470 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm
  • Atego x15: 4249 cm ³ | 110 kW ( 150 PS) | 580 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm
  • Atego x17: 4249 cm ³ | 125 kW ( 170 PS) | 670 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm

In-line six -cylinder OM 906/926 LA:

  • Atego x23: 6374 cm ³ | 170 kW ( 231 hp ) | 810 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm
  • Atego xx28: 6374 cm ³ | 205 kW (279 PS) | 1100 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm
  • Atego XX33: 7210 cm ³ | 240 kW (326 PS) | 1300 Nm at 1200-1600 rpm

The facelift in 2004

At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2004, finally came the facelift in which the indicators were enlarged and the front was more aligned with the new Actros (since March 2003). Remained the driving force, but they could now with a new hydraulically operated gearbox called G131 -9 ( a four-speed basic gearbox with splitting and Creep (Crawler ), as well as a reverse gear ) or the equally new G85 -6 with the Telligent automatic gearshift system ( one of the Actros technology assumed) that takes inter alia, the braking and driving assistance systems (ABS, ASR, BAS, etc. ) as well as other functions such as to Wankregulierung offers can be combined. As late as 2005, the engine range was a new in-line four cylinder extended ( data below), which pays due to its significantly lower weight compared to the in-line six -cylinder OM 906 LA, especially in the payload - sensitive 11,99 -tonne segment. The Atego x17 also strengthened by 7 hp to 177 hp now (as well as by 5 Nm to 675 Nm) and became the Atego x18.

In addition, the entire cockpit has been redesigned, which comes from then on very modern and almost car - moderate and is available in three different versions: as a distribution, long distance transport and comfort version, where all vehicles are equipped as standard with the distribution cockpit, surcharge can also be equipped with the two other types. The distribution cockpit also has a narrow parapet in order to simplify the trapdoor to the passenger seat and can be fitted on request with a middle seat. The long-distance comfort and variant a wide parapet with additional shelves, quality surfaces ( comfort) or many shelves on the engine block ( long-distance ). Another important innovation was the widened beds, which are now 64.5 cm (bottom) and 70 cm (top) advised sufficiently wide and is used to increase the comfort have a strong duty slatted frame.

  • News of engines at a glance:

The engines are in the exhaust stages Euro IV and V on the BlueTec SCR system. In addition, the even more stringent EEV emission standard is available for all engines over 130 kW, which is however not required by law. A fulfillment of the Euro VI emission standard is only in the follow-up product, provided with the OM934/936.

Atego hybrid

The Atego BlueTec Hybrid, the first European standard trucks with hybrid drive, was delivered to more than 110 customers since its launch in 2010. Designed primarily for urban or regional distribution, the Atego BlueTec Hybrid 1222L - currently ( 08/2012 ) is the only hybrid truck with a European type approval EU 29 - in this sector. Depending on the application profile can be achieved by fuel savings an effective CO2 reduction as well as economic benefits.

Parallel hybrid technology

The Atego BlueTec Hybrid is based on the principle of the parallel hybrid: The four-cylinder diesel engine OM 924 ( Euro V EEV, 4.8-liter, 160 kW corresponding to 218 hp at 2200 rpm ) is combined with a water-cooled electric motor ( peak power 44 kW is equivalent to 60 hp) and a lithium -ion battery pack to the vehicle frame. The three-phase permanent magnet motor is placed between the clutch and the automated transmission. This drive configuration allows both motors can drive the truck individually or in combination. With appropriate charging of the battery pack by braking or coasting mode is a purely electric starting - for example in urban pedestrian or environmental zones - possible. The diesel engine is running it will idle and switches off completely only when higher power is required to. By using the standard start -stop function also the fuel consumption, emissions and noise are reduced.
