Mercedes-Benz TN

The Mercedes -Benz T 1 is a pickup truck, which was built from 1977 to 1995.

History

In this vehicle series and series TN and Bremen Transporter are used except the internal designation, since the vehicle was built until 1984 at the Bremen plant. The official name of the type (BM ) is depending on the version either BM: 601 ( 2.55 to 2.8 t), 602 ( 3.2-3.5 t) or 611 (4.6 t). The T 1 was the first pickup truck, the Daimler -Benz -developed, its predecessor Harburg transporter was a development of Hanomag -Henschel vehicle works, the Daimler -Benz took over in 1970. Other than this the T1 has a rear-wheel drive.

The design of the vehicle was from Stefan Heiliger.

The T 1 was partially available as a panel van, combi I, II combi, minibus, flatbed, dump trucks and chassis without bodywork without complete cab. Maximum were three different wheelbases, namely 3.05 m, 3.35 m and 3.70 m, are available. The total weight ranged from 2.55 t to 4.6 t, the drive was either by gasoline or diesel engines. Even as a camper T 1 was used. Was offered by Mercedes -Benz of self -developed by Westfalia James Cook.

The type designations conform to the schema, the Mercedes- Benz applies even for large trucks, and based on the ( rounded ) gross vehicle weight and the ( approximate ) Power in PS together. So had a 207 GB to 2.8 t gross weight and 72 hp and a 409 GB to 4.6 t gross weight and 88 hp. The 4 vehicles are recognizable by the twin-wheel rear axle and were only available with medium and long wheelbase.

The T 1 was larger than the VW Transporter, competitors were the Volkswagen LT and the Ford Transit.

From about 1978, a small series was launched as an electric vehicle for a large-scale experiment. Main customer was, inter alia, The German postal service to operate on Helgoland.

The production was in 1983/84 gradually moved to Dusseldorf and adjusted according to the age of 18 in 1995. The Indian manufacturer Force Motors (formerly Bajaj Tempo) produces the vehicle still optically modified as "Traveller" (such as a bus and a van).

Successor to the T 1 was the completely redesigned Sprinter.
