Mersin İdmanyurdu is a Turkish football club from Mersin. The club played in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 2010s a total of 13 seasons in the Süper Lig and is located in the Eternal table on the 29th place.

History

The club was founded on August 16, 1925 with the name of Mersin Gençlerbirliği. At that time the club colors were red and white. Throughout the club's history the white was replaced by Navy. In the season 1962/63 the team succeeded in the 2nd Turkish football league ascend. In 1964 the name of the association in Mersin Spor Kulübü İdmanyurdu has been renamed. For the third year in the 2nd league succeeded the team in the first Turkish football league ascend. Coach of the team at that time was the Fenerbahçe legend Lefter - Küçükandonyadis.

The biggest success of the club's history was the participation in the Turkish Cup final in 1983. At that time they lost against Fenerbahce in the first leg 0-2 and the second leg 1-2. Since Fenerbahçe was already automatically qualified as a champion of the first league to secured Miy as participants in the Cup final a place at the European Cup Winners' Cup. There they met the Bulgarian first division PFC Spartak Varna. During the first leg ended 0-0 in Mersin, you had to be in the return match in Bulgaria beaten 0-1 and was eliminated.

The 2010/11 season ended Mersin İdmanyurdu 1st place in the Bank Asya 1 Lig, an increase after 28 years of absence, on the highest Turkish Spor Toto Süper Lig Game class. Only in the 2008/ 09 season was Mersin İdmanyurdu of the third highest league " TFF Lig 2 " in the Bank Asya 1 Lig ascended.
