The Marienplatz in Munich railway station is a stop on the Deutsche Bahn, a stop on the Stadtwerke München and one of the main bus stations in the territory of the Munich Transport and Tariff Association.

This is where the running east -west direction S- Bahn route along with the running in a north-south direction subway lines U3/U6. At peak times, rise here until 24,400 people per hour to and 8,000 people in and out.

In October 1966, the construction of the station, which was after five years, in October 1971, completed began. The total cost amounted to DM 26 million ( adjusted for inflation and converted approximately 46.4 million euros ). In 2007, used on weekdays daily 175.400 import, export and transfer passengers the breakpoint.

Construction

The station covers four levels below the Marienplatz, New Town Hall and Marienplatz court.

The distribution of levels in the first depth level includes a shopping arcade as well as the entrances to the S- and U -Bahn platforms.

In the second low level, the track 1 of the S -Bahn to Munich Ostbahnhof is with platforms on both sides, with exit on one side and started on the other side ( Spanish solution). The platforms are each 210 feet long and 96 cm high. In addition, various utility rooms are located on this level.

In the third depth level is the track 2 of the S -Bahn to Munich Central Station, also with platforms on both sides. The platforms are each 210 feet long and 96 cm high. Again, there are numerous utility rooms.

The two platforms of the subway are the lowest, 4th Plain. The track in the direction Münchner Freiheit here runs under Dienerstraße in eastern Marie Court, the track towards Sendlinger Tor runs underneath the wine route. Therefore, the two platforms of the subway are quite far apart. The subway station was designed by Alexander Freiherr von Branca. From here, the second highest escalators of the Munich U -Bahn system lead directly up into the distribution of levels below the Marienplatz and the Marienhof.

Extension work

The underground level was expanded after the Civil decision to build the Allianz Arena in October 2001 by the spring of 2003 until the summer of 2006 for 42 million euros. Until the World Cup 2006, the two platform tunnels have been widened by two in parallel leading new cleats. Each with eleven wall openings close to the new tunnel to the existing, in the southern area breakthroughs were also built to the wells of the S-Bahn. The entire construction project took place under full operation. In addition, the platforms were raised by four inches to provide a ground-level boarding the subway trains.

The tunneling was carried out in a special process, which should rule out cuts the earth's surface, and especially the historic New Town Hall. These much smaller project tunnels were built above the tunnel to be built, the soil was solidified by a freezing plant. Under the protection of the ice sheet, the actual tunnel could then be excavated, without leading to a significant reduction of the soil and thus to damage to buildings. Without the icing process, the construction work had been delayed by about a year.

On 29 May 2006, the two expansion tunnels were released provisionally for passenger service. After the World Cup still had to be completed leaks repaired and the still incomplete covering of the walls.

In the future, another S-Bahn station is under the Marienhof in the course of construction of the second S- Bahn route arise which should be connected to the existing underground building in the north and crosses the route of the U3/U6 with about five meters distance.

Renovation and redesign of the lock floor

From 2011 until the end of 2014, the station is being refurbished and designed the mezzanine, designed by Allmann Sattler Steelers completely new. The plans, inter alia, a relocation of the currently distributed lock floor stalls at the edge as well as new floor, ceiling and wall coverings before. The light comes to planning by Ingo Maurer.
