Geography

Geographical location

New stone situated in Knüllgebirge in the catchment of Geisbaches, which rises here and flows in Bad Hersfeld, which is only about 10 km south-east into the Fulda.

Neighboring communities

New stone borders in the north on the community Knüllwald ( in the Schwalm -Eder -Kreis), in the east on the community of Bad Hersfeld, in the south of the town of Bad Hersfeld and the village of Kirchheim (all in Hersfeld -Rotenburg ); on the southwest by the municipality of upper auditorium, and in the west on the town Schwarzenborn (both in the Schwalm -Eder -Kreis).

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Ouch, village grille, Mühlbach, Obergeis, Raboldshausen, Saasen, Salzberg and Untergeis. The municipality is located in the central district of Aua.

History

The first written mention of one of the districts is Ouch ( " Owe " ), which was 852 mentioned in a deed of gift to the Hersfeld Abbey. The Hersfelder Abbot founded a monastery here in 1190, but which was already in 1229 to Blankenheim, today part of Bebra, laid. The place " salts Mountain" was mentioned in 1190 for the first time. While there is a certificate of 782 about this place, the authenticity is disputed. All other places were first mentioned in the 12th and 13th centuries. Most districts have long been in possession of the Hersfeld Abbey or were fiefs of the Lords of Wallenstein. Albert I von Wallenstein built above Saasen a castle, which was first mentioned in 1267 as Neuwallenstein. ( Ancestral castle of Wallenstein was the Wallenstein castle in Knüllwald, district Wallenstein. ) On July 24, 1318 run-down to a robber barons castle was by troops of the Landgrave of Hessen Otto, the Hersfelder Abbot Simon I of Buchenau, Count Johann I of goats grove and the country magistrate and poor bailiff in the Wetterau, Eberhard III. of Breuberg destroyed. Only in 1357 it was rebuilt by Simon von Wallenstein again.

The New Stone castle is now used as a conference and events center.

Community education

The places Ouch, village grille, Mühlbach, Raboldshausen, Saasen, Salzberg and Untergeis teamed up with effect from 31 December 1971 on the new community New stone. Obergeis was zwangseingemeindet on 1 August 1972.

It was named after the medieval name of the castle Neuwallenstein (now New Castle stone called ) from which was derived the community name.

Mayor

After the formation of the large village Konrad Käberich assumed the duties of a mayor from December 1972 to August 1973 true. The first elected mayor was George Ries January 1974 to January 1980. Was followed by Walter Schmidt.

The Mayor Walter Glänzer (CDU ) was elected on 28 September 2003 with a vote share of 59.7 %.

Traffic

The community is just off the junction 85, Bad Hersfeld- West at the Federal Highway 7 Furthermore leads the federal highway 324 through the municipality.

About the municipality also runs the high-speed railway route between Hanover and Würzburg, among others, the Mühlbach tunnel and the Cold -sand tunnel.
