Hersfeld-Rotenburg

The Hersfeld-Rotenburg district is a district with area shares in Northern Hesse ( Former district Rotenburg ) and, in Hesse ( Former district Hersfeld ). Neighboring districts are in the north of the Werra- Meißner-Kreis in the east of the Thuringian Wartburg district, in the southern district of Fulda, in the southwest of the Vogelsberg and west of the Schwalm- Eder-Kreis.

In the tourist area has come to be for the county the name Waldhessen.

Geography

The district area comprises mainly the middle Fulda valley. To the west rise the heights of the crumpled mountains (sometimes just " crumpled " ) to the east the heights of the Werra- Fulda- mountain country with the Seulingswald. The highest point of the circle is the Eisenberg ( 636 m) in the Hochknüll. To the south lie the northern foothills of the Rhön. The tangierte of the Werra River east of the district to herring ( Werra) is part of the Werra potash district.

History

Today the district was very early to country county of Hesse, later Electorate of Hesse. The region around Rotenburg belonged from the 13th century to Hesse, and the prince- Hersfeld followed during the 16th century. Here the beginning of the 19th century the two offices Hersfeld ( within the province of Fulda) and Office Rotenburg ( within the province of Lower Hesse ) were formed. From the offices in 1821 circles were formed in the year. In the course of municipal reform in Hesse, the district Hersfeld and Rotenburg were pooled with effect from 1 August 1972 new Hersfeld-Rotenburg district.

Coat of arms

Blazon: ". Divided by silver and red, a faceted front double Tatzenkreuz, behind a horizontal silver branch from which grows up a branch with three silver linden leaves " (Coat - approval on March 29, 1976)

Meaning: The Faceted Double Tatzenkreuz is the red Hersfelder double cross, the sign of the old pen Hersfeld, the Lindenast the coat of arms of the town of Rotenburg an der Fulda. The symbols represent the two former district towns. The former county coat of arms already wore these symbols.

District

The first direct election of a district administrator in the district took place on 2 March 1997. Here sat the candidate of the SPD, Roland Hühn, with a vote share of 57.2 per cent against a CDU candidates. At the next election on February 2, 2003 went to Karl -Ernst Schmidt of the CDU against district Roland Hühn and won the election with a vote share of 50.3 percent. The District Administrator Karl -Ernst Schmidt was re-elected on 26 April 2009, with a vote share of 59.8 %, for the SPD candidate Manfred Koch.

Bad Hersfeld and Bebra are train stations with ICE and IC hold.

In the mid - Bebra Germany connection Ruhrgebiet-Kassel-Erfurt-Chemnitz/Leipzig and the old north-south route Hannover-Frankfurt/Würzburg cut.

The high-speed line Hannover- Wuerzburg without stopping by the district area. Connecting curves to Bebra or Bad Hersfeld as a link towards Erfurt are planned in the long term.

Road

By the district the federal highways lead 7 (Würzburg -Kassel), 5 ( Frankfurt- Hattenbacher triangle (end of A 5) ) and 4 ( Kirchheimer Triangle Erfurt). In addition, several federal state and county roads open up the district area, including the B 27, B 62 and B 83
