Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture
The Autonomous District Ngawa the Tibetan and Qiang is located in the north of Sichuan Province and is part of the eastern Tibetan cultural region of Amdo, partly attributable to the Gyarong region, which in turn is counted by many to Kham. Its administrative seat is the large village Barkam in the same circle. Ngawa has an area of 83,201 km ².

Earthquake in 2008
The epicenter of the earthquake in Sichuan on 12 May 2008 was in Wenchuan county, in the extreme southeast of Ngawa.
