Nicole & Hugo

Nicole Josy ( born October 21, 1946 in Wemmel, actually Nicole van Palm) and Hugo Sigal ( born November 10, 1947 in Kinshasa, Belgian Congo, actually Hugo Verbraeken ) are a Belgian pop duo.

Career

Josy and Sigal met in 1970. They formed a singing duo and were also a couple. In 1971 she participated in the Belgian part of the preliminary round for Euro Vision Song Contest, which was hosted by the Flemish TV station BRT under the title Canzonissima. With the song Goeie tomorrow, tomorrow they could clearly win the preselection against the other eleven featured song. Since 1971, however, Nicole fell ill with jaundice shortly before the Euro Vision Song Contest, they could not participate in Dublin on competition and were replaced by Jacques Raymond and Lily Castel. They reached the 14th place among 18 participants and never took the song on record on. In the original version of Nicole & Hugo, however, the song was a huge hit and became the Evergreen. In the same year they were married in Wemmel.

In 1973 she took part once again in the Belgian preliminary decision, the time was held under the title song euros and could win again: baby baby won first place during their second title Jij en ik en wij received zero points. When Euro Vision Song Contest 1973 in Luxembourg they did not succeed and were among the 17 participants only on the last place. They received 58 points, corresponding to a section of only 1.81 points out of five possible points per judge. Successful they were with Met de zommer mee at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo in 1974, where she took second place and received the Outstanding Composition Award.

Nearly ten years were Nicole & Hugo on tour, until they started in 1984, primarily to sing on cruise ships. On 20 October 1990 she received from the SABAM an award for their outstanding service to the Belgian show business. Sigal was chosen in 2001 by the "Seniors Club Antwerp " for the seniors of the year. In 2004 she took part in Euro song again, the Belgian preliminary decision to Euro Vision Song Contest. With the song Love is all around them occupied in the first semifinal second place and could not therefore qualify for the final. 2005, her competition entry of 1973 in the Euro Vision Song Contest Congratulations Gala was a running gag repeatedly recorded, Nicole and Hugo appeared at the end also live on.

Miscellaneous

Nicole Josy had participated solo in the meetings organized by the Walloon Belgian stations preliminary rounds for Euro Vision Song Contest in 1968 and 1970. In 1968 she came with A la Nouvelle- Orleans is not among the top two in 1970 she divorced with two titles in the semi-final rounds.
