Ñuflo de Chavez is a province in the northern central part of the Department of Santa Cruz in the lowlands of the South American Andean Republic of Bolivia. The province takes its name in honor of the conquistadors Ñuflo de Chávez ( 1518-1556 ).

Location

The province is one of fifteen provinces in the department of Santa Cruz. It is bordered on the north by the department of Beni, in the northwest of the province Guarayos, on the southwest by the province Obispo Santistevan and the province Ignacio Warnes, on the south by the province of Andrés Ibáñez and the province of Chiquitos, and on the east by the province of José Miguel de Velasco.

It extends between 13 ° 45 'and 17 ° 30' south latitude and 61 ° 30 ' and 63 ° 25' west longitude, its length from north to south is 520 km, its width from east to west up to 250 kilometers. It has a size of 52 043 square kilometers.

Population

91.6 percent of the population speak Spanish, Quechua 30.1 percent, 2.0 percent and 1.2 percent Aymara and Guaraní (1992).

87.3 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 50.4 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

79.5 percent of the population are Catholics, 17.2 percent are Protestant (1992).
