Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Ussyk (Ukrainian Олександр Олександрович Усік, English transcription Oleksandr Oleksandrovic Usyk, . Born January 17, 1987 in Simferopol, Crimean ASSR, Ukrainian SSR, USSR) is a Ukrainian boxer. He was bronze medalist at the European Championships in 2006, 2008 European Champion, Olympian 2008, bronze medalist of the 2009 World Championships, 2011 World Champion and Olympic champion in 2012.

Career

Oleksandr Ussyk comes from Simferopol. He started there as a teenager with boxing and developed itself as a junior at an excellent stylist. He is a member of the boxing club Ukraina Simferopol. He is 1.91 meters tall and has therefore over a large area. In 2005 he represented the Ukraine for the first time at an international championship, the Junior European Championships in Tallinn. He left there in the middleweight division, however, already in his first fight by a point defeat against the Russians Sergei Skljarew and therefore finished only 17th place.

Oleksandr Ussyk also made further progress in 2006. In the 50th Bocskai Memorial in Debrecen, Hungary, he came at middleweight he came to three wins and beat, amongst others, the Romanian lace boxer Ronald Gavril and Petrişor Gănănău. 2008 represented Ukraine Oleksandr Ussyk at the 1st European Olympic Qualification tournament for the Beijing Games in Pescara. He started there even in the heavyweight division ( class up to 91 of body weight) and was there in great shape. With victories over Adrian Ciobanu, Romania, Yousef Abdelghani, Israel, Elchin Alizade, Azerbaijan and Danny Price, England, he fought his way to one of the two coveted Olympic starting places that no longer necessitated the final battle against Viktar Zuev of Belarus. At the Beijing Games even he won the heavyweight in the first round of the Chinese Yushan Nijati convincingly on points ( 23:4 ), but was defeated in the quarter finals against the reigning world champion Clemente Russo from Italy on points ( 4:7 ) and finished in fifth place.

In November 2008, he competed at the European Championships in Liverpool again in the light heavyweight division. He was there with five convincing victories point the new European Champion. In the final he defeated Sergei Karnejew this from Belarus with 11:2 hits. At the end of 2008 he started in December in Moscow and at the World Cup. In the heavy- weight he came there to point victories over Elchin Alizade ( 12:4 ) and Mihai Muntean, Moldova ( 5:2 ). At the 2009 World Championships Ussyk reached after victories over Manpreet Singh, India ( 16:2 ), in the second round on Stephen Simmons, Scotland ( 11:1 ), and in the quarterfinals on Vitalijus Subacius, Lithuania (19:1), the semi-finals, which However, he against the eventual world champion Yegor Menchonzew, Russia ( 14:10), lost and thus won the bronze medal.

World Series of Boxing
