On the 6 (English for: "In 6") is the debut album of American pop -R & B singer Jennifer Lopez. It was published on 1 June 1999 in the United States by the record label Epic Records.

Background

The name of the album refers to the line 6 of the metro in New York City, where Lopez worked as a waitress before her career start. The album was supposed to Feelin ' So Good hot, but Lopez opted for On the 6 Instead, Feelin ' So Good released as the third single. The album contains two Diana Ross cover versions: Promise Me You'll Try, and the bonus song Theme from Mahogany ( Do You Know Where You're Going To). This album is pop - oriented than their later albums.

On the 6 debuted in eighth place on the Billboard 200 in the week ending June 19, 1999 with over 11,000 CD sold units in the first week of sales. The album stayed 63 weeks in the U.S. album charts, including twenty weeks in the top ten. It has sold over five million copies worldwide, and were released five singles, including the number -one hit and breakthrough If You Had My Love, which could hold 1999, the top position on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks. It is so far the most successful single release by Jennifer Lopez. Also successful was the second single Waiting for Tonight.
