Paceco

Paceco is a city in the province of Trapani in Sicily region of Italy with 11,485 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Paceco located 7 km south of Trapani. The city Paceco covers an area of 58 km ². The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture, especially from the salt extraction, the wine and the yellow melon (Cucumis melo ), a special feature of the area.

The districts are Castellazzo, Culcasi, Dattilo, Dattilo Soprano, Lake Baiata, Marino, Murana, Nubia, Pecoreria, Specchia, Verderame.

The nearby towns are: Erice and Trapani. Paceco borders both the north and to the south by Trapani and divides the municipality of Trapani in two parts.

History

In the area already settled in prehistoric humans. In the 14th and 15th century, the town grew up around the church of San Lorenzo di Xitta. At this time, the place belonged to the Order of St. John, later the place was as a fief of the Fardella family.
