Salaparuta

Salaparuta is a municipality in the province of Trapani in Sicily region of Italy with 1729 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Salaparuta is located 83 km south-east of Trapani at an altitude of 171 m and an area of 41 km ². The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Contessa Entellina (PA ), Gibellina, Montevago, Part Anna, Poggio Reale, Santa Margherita di Belice (AG) and Santa Ninfa.

History

The village was founded by the family Paruta, the Norman term sala means place, along with the family name gives the place name. The village was destroyed in 1968 by an earthquake. Salaparuta was then modern rebuilt, about 4 kilometers south-east of the old site.
