Powell County is a county located in the state of Montana in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Deer Lodge.

According to the census of 2000, there were 43 282 people in the county. There were 2,422 households and 1,634 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.52 % White, 0.50 % African American, 3.51 % Native American, 0.43 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 0.74 % from other races groups; 2.30% were descended from two or more races. 1.95% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
