Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The BHT Premijer League is the top division in club football from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The national champion and two direct relegated carry a total of 16 clubs from each other. The master of the two parallel second highest leagues, the First League of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina ( Prva Liga FBiH) and the First League of the Republika Srpska ( Prva Liga Republike Srpska ), promoted to the Premijer league.

History

Even during the civil war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first official football championship was held in 1994. Under difficult conditions and lasting game crashes it managed but the championship, in which participated only Bosniaks to play to the end. First official master of time under the name Prva League of Bosnia and Herzegovina (German First League of Bosnia and Herzegovina) was the NK Čelik Zenica. In the season 1998/99 the name, which still exists to this day, was changed to Premijer Liga BiH. First champion of the new league was Premijer of FK Sarajevo.

2000/ 01 decided the NFSBIH and the Bosnian Croat federation merge the leagues and to play a joint championship after a year earlier, the four best teams in the yet to date independent leagues playing off a playoff for the championship of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Shortly after the first merger was decided also to discharge together with Bosnian Serb associations, the first joint championship in the 2002/03 season. The championship has since been discharged with sixteen teams. In 2012, the NFSBIH a league reform, stating that the Premijer Liga is reduced by 2015 to twelve teams decided.

Previous champions

The Bosnian - Herzegovinian soccer championship has been held since 1994. Previously, the teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina played in the League of Yugoslavia. Only two teams managed to become champion there. The FK Sarajevo 1967/68 and 1985/86, and the city rivals FK Željezničar Sarajevo 1972/73.

Even during the Bosnian war in 1994, the first official Bosnian - Herzegovinian championship was played, then only with the Bosnijakischen teams. The first master was called NK Čelik Zenica. Record holder is the FK Željezničar Sarajevo. 2000 brought NK Brotnjo Čitluk the first non Bosnijakische team the championship. The first Bosnian Serb champion was FK Leotar Trebinje, after he won the 2003 Premijer league.

Current champion is the FK Željezničar Sarajevo. All championship games are listed in the Table of the Eternal Premijer league.

As of the end of the European campaign of 2012/13

The League is of 53 listed at number 32 in the UEFA five year ranking in 2012. Thus, the national champion is only set in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League. The cup winner, the runner-up and third-placed start in the qualifying rounds for the Europa League.
