Puyloubier

Puyloubier is a commune with 1845 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The municipality is located twenty kilometers east of Aix -en- Provence, on the northern edge of the basin of Trets, at the foot of the Montagne Sainte- Victoire. Neighboring municipalities are Trets, Rousset and Pourrières. Puyloubier is part of the Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix.

Foreign Legion

Since 1953, located east of the village means for injured soldiers of the Foreign Legion. The soldiers there have different ways of operating, such as agriculture, craft or employment in a uniform Museum.

History

Already in prehistoric times, the area was probably inhabited by people. From the time of the Celts who came before Christ in the region in the 4th century, traces of oppida can be found. 125 BC, the Celts were eventually supplanted by the Romans and their allies. Several findings validate the presence of the Romans. In the 9th century, the village was surrounded on the so-called Wolf Hill by a wall, which offered protection from invaders.
