Jouques

Jouques is a commune with 4248 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The community is located between the 25 km distant Aix -en- Provence and 30 kilometers away Manosque. Neighboring municipalities are Peyrolles -en- Provence, Rians, Mirabeau and Saint -Paul- lès -Durance. The municipality is part of the Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix. Jouques located in the hinterland of the Durance, in the valley of the river Réal.

History

The first certain signs of human life come from the period 11000-10000 BC. Later, the community was dominated by the Romans. During the French Revolution, the citizens took power, before it had, however, no more than ten noble families and half a dozen priests, been delivered. 1912, the present Town Hall was opened.
