Rognes is a commune with 4683 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography
The community is located 19 km north-west of Aix -en- Provence. Neighboring communities are La Roque- d'Anthéron, Saint- Esteve - Janson and Le Puy -Sainte- Réparade. The municipality belongs to the community association Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix.
History
The municipality, which lies between the hills Trévaresse and the Durance, was inhabited since ancient times. In the Neolithic period, the first people in the south of the Chaîne des Côtes settled. In the Iron Age, they settled on the Foussa down, only in caves, and later they established an oppidum. During Roman times, the people settled in the plains, retired in the Middle Ages but back on the ridge back. Around 1150 the village Castrum de Ruinis was called. The village was protected by a powerful citadel, which was destroyed in 1601. Due to the severe earthquake of 1909, a large part of the village was destroyed. Thereupon, the people settled further to below.
