2011 Paris–Nice

The 69th - wheel voyage Paris-Nice was held to 13 March 2011 of 6. She was one of the UCI World Tour and was on within this the second race after the Tour Down Under. The total race distance was 1307 km.

The participants

Eligible were the 18 ProTeam and the French Professional Continental teams Cofidis, Team Europcar, FDJ, and Brittany Schuller, who received a wild card from the organizer Amaury Sport Organisation.

The stages

The course was presented on February 1, 2011.

In 2011, the organizers dispensed with the traditional prologue, the race was instead located with a regular stage in the village Houdan, west of Paris, opened. The first three stages went on largely flat terrain, then it went into the mountains. The 5th stage comprised seven climbs. There followed the first time after 43 years again a time trial over 27 kilometers. The seventh day section had five climbs on a sophisticated profile. As usual, the " journey to the sun" ended with a course around Nice, was passed on among other things, the Col d' Eze before the race on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice ended. Overall, the voyage was more difficult than in previous years.

Full Time

For the first time in the history of the voyage Paris - Nice, the " journey to the sun" ended with a German double victory. It was fairly Tony Martin of HTC -Highroad his favorite role that had been assigned to him after his success at the Tour of Algarve. He thus achieved one of his greatest goals for the season and won the third tour of his professional career. How Klöden, winner of the edition of 2000, he celebrated a stage win and fourth overall was the German who won Paris - Nice. Martin presented itself in the individual time trial sovereign as well as in the mountains. But Klöden showed a good performance with a stage win and one day as overall leader.

For the German - Australian Heinrich Haussler, the race was also to be seen as a success. Although he won despite several top - 10 finishes no stage, but despite a fall on the penultimate section, he won the points classification for itself.

The French riders enjoyed a total of three stage successes by Rémy Di Gregorio from Pro Team Astana, won his first professional victory, and the national champion Thomas Voeckler of Team Europcar, who retained twice the upper hand. In addition, Rémi Pauriol won the mountain classification and as expected, the French were propagated in breakaways.
