Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde

Saint -Marc- Jaumegarde is a commune with 1116 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Saint -Marc- Jaumegarde is located five kilometers north-east of Aix -en- Provence. Other neighboring towns are Le tholonet and Vauvenargues. The municipality belongs to the community association Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix.

History

As early as the Neolithic period, the area was inhabited as discoveries prove in caves and ancient dolmens. In the 11th century the village was first mentioned. In 1191 the church was handed over to the Archdiocese of Aix -en- Provence. In the following period the village was owned by several masters. On February 4, 1790 was a parish of the departments of Bouches -du -Rhône. 1953 Bimont dam was completed in Saint -Marc- Jaumegarde.
