Quistello

Quistello is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 5634 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Mantua in Lombardy. The community is located about 22 kilometers southeast of Mantua at the Secchia. Quistello is immediately adjacent to the province of Modena (Emilia -Romagna). The municipality is located a few kilometers south of the Po.

History

From the Latin Custellum the name of the place has emerged. 1007 appears the first time the name of the community as Custello. In 1734, it caught the Battle of Quistello between Habsburg troops and French and Sardinian troops under the Polish Succession War.

Economy and Transport

In the area around Quistello wine is grown and produced from Lambrusco. Through the community's former Strada Statale 496 Virgiliana leads (now a provincial road ) from Ferrara to San Benedetto Po.
