History

The 23 locomotives with the numbers 611-633 were taken in 1973 (first series) and 1984 ( second series) in operation. The last locomotive of the second series, named Zuoz and the number 633 was delivered in 1985. They replaced the Ge 6 /6 I ( crocodiles ), which were always prone to failure.

In the outer appearance of the goods supplied by SLM and BBC locomotives remember the Re 4/4II SBB. However, the electrical part is quite different: constructed from thyristors and diodes controlled rectifiers ( phase control ) supply the traction motors with wavy DC. The former technique to let no regenerative braking, which is why the vehicles are equipped with a dynamic brake.

The locomotives are named after towns along the RhB network in Graubünden. The names are in white letters on right and left side in the upper area of ​​the vehicle, the car numbers 611-633 on the two end faces, as well as laterally below. Next to the name each locomotive bears the arms of the sponsor community.

The four locomotives with the locomotive number 612, 619, 627 and 632 were the last machines, which were modernized in 2008.
