Roland Schröder

Roland Schröder ( born August 17, 1962 in Köthen ) is a former rower from the GDR. In 1988, Schröder Olympic champion in the coxless four.

Schröder was in 1979 with the Spartakiade second in the double sculls and quadruple sculls. In 1980, he won together with Thomas Lange at the Junior World Championships in the double sculls. Schröder won in 1983 with the quad without the SC Chemie Halle DDR Championship, 1984 and 1985, he finished each ranked second. 1988 moved Schröder for Jens Luedecke to Thomas Greiner, Ralf Brudel and Olaf Förster in the GDR - four, who had become World Champion in 1987. At the 1988 Olympic Games Förster, Brudel, Greiner and Schröder won before the boats from the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany. 1989 Luedecke returned back to the quad; Schroeder moved to the GDR aft, with which he gave the second place at the World Championships in Bled behind the boat from the Federal Republic. On the last show of the East German rowing team at the 1990 World Cup in Tasmania Schröder labeled with the GDR rollercoaster again the third place, after he had won the last East German championship with the eighth.

For the Olympic gold medal in Seoul in 1988 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.

Schroeder married Dresdner rower Heike Winkler. The qualified electrician sold after the turn Großbauküchen.
