Romano Canavese
Romano Canavese ( Piedmontese novel) is a municipality with 2880 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont.
The municipality includes the villages of Cascine di Romano and Canton Moretti. The neighboring municipalities are Ivrea, Pavone Canavese, Strambino, Perosa Canavese, Scarmagno and Mercenasco.
Geography
The town is located 41 km from Turin at an altitude of 270 m above sea level. The municipality covers an area of 11.22 km ².
History
Romano was BC as a Roman camp ( castra ) founded in 143, on the occasion of a war against the Celtic tribe of the Salassians. In the 14th century the population of Romano was involved in the rebellion of the Tuchini, a peasant revolt which was directed against the ruling princes and the thought in the Carnival of Ivrea today. During the hostilities, the ancient castle was destroyed except for a single tower which is the symbol of the village today.
