Samuel Shaw

Samuel Shaw ( * December 1768 in Dighton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, † October 23, 1827 in Clarendon Springs, Vermont ) was an American politician. Between 1808 and 1813, he represented the first electoral district of the state of Vermont in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Samuel Shaw received only a limited education and then moved to Putney, Vermont. After studying medicine, he began to practice as a physician from 1789 in Castleton. Politically, Shaw joined, founded by Thomas Jefferson Democratic- Republican Party. Between 1800 and 1807, he was a member of the House of Representatives of Vermont.

Following the resignation of Congressman James Witherell Samuel Shaw won the elections due in the first district of Vermont. So that he could implement his mandate in Congress from September 6, 1808. After he was confirmed in the regular congressional elections in 1808 and 1810 respectively in his office, Samuel Shaw could remain until March 3, 1813 Congress. After the end of his time in the House of Representatives in Washington DC Shaw worked 1813-1818 as a medical officer in the U.S. Army.

Samuel Shaw died in October 1827 and was buried in Castleton. His son Henry (1788-1857) was of 1817-1821 the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.
