Henry Shaw (Massachusetts)

Henry Shaw ( * 1788 in Putney, Vermont, † October 17, 1857 in Peekskill, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1817 and 1821 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Shaw attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he started from 1810 in Albany (New York) to work in this profession. In 1813 he moved to Lanesboro, Massachusetts. Politically, he joined the Democratic- Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1816 Shaw was in the seventh election district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John W. Hulbert on March 4, 1817. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1821 two legislative sessions. In 1820, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

Between 1824 and 1830, and in 1833 was Shaw MP in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts; In 1835 he was a member of the State Senate. In 1845 he ran unsuccessfully for the governorship of Massachusetts. Three years later he moved to New York City, where he was in 1849 a member of the Education Committee in the year. In the years 1850 and 1851, he was sitting city council of New York; In 1853 he was elected to the New York State Assembly. Since 1854 Henry Shaw lived in Newburgh. He died on October 17, 1857 in Peekskill.
