Henry L. Pierce

Henry Lillie Pierce ( born August 23, 1825 Stoughton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, † December 17, 1896 in Boston, Massachusetts ) was an American politician. Between 1873 and 1877 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Pierce visited after a good primary education, the State Normal School in Bridgewater. He then worked in the craft. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1860 and 1862, and again in 1866 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Massachusetts. In the years 1870 and 1871 he was a member of the City Council of Boston; In 1873 he was mayor of that city.

After the death of Mr William Whiting Pierce was at the due election for the third seat from Massachusetts as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 1 December 1873. After a re-election, he could remain until March 3, 1877 Congress. In 1876 he gave up another candidacy. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Henry Pierce was in 1878 as the successor of Frederick O. Prince once mayor of Boston. He died there on 17 December 1896.
