George M. Brooks

George Merrick Brooks ( born July 26, 1824 in Concord, Massachusetts, † September 22, 1893 ) was an American politician. From 1869 to 1872 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Brooks attended the common schools and then studied until 1844 at Harvard University. After studying law and his 1847 was admitted to the bar he began to work in Concord in this profession. Later, he began a political career as a member of the newly formed Republican Party. In 1858 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Massachusetts; In 1859 he was a member of the State Senate.

Following the resignation of Mr George S. Boutwell Brooks was at the due election for the seventh seat of Massachusetts as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 2, 1869. After a re-election, he could remain until his resignation on 13 May 1872 Congress. Brooks ' resignation was after his appointment as judge. Until his death on 22 September 1893 he was restructuring judge in Middlesex County.
