John Simpkins

John Simpkins (* June 27, 1862 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, † March 27, 1898 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1898 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Simpkins attended the public schools in Yarmouth and then studied until 1885 at Harvard University. He became a member of the Republican Party and was in the years 1892 and 1893 President of the Republican Club of Massachusetts. From 1890 to 1891 he sat in the Senate from Massachusetts. He was also a 1892 to 1894 the State Board of his Party.

In the congressional elections of 1894 Simpkins was elected in the 13th electoral district of Massachusetts in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Charles S. Randall on March 4, 1895. After a re-election, he could remain until his death on March 27, 1898 in Congress. He bequeathed his extensive public school in Yarmouth, which he had visited in his youth library.
