San Mauro Torinese

San Mauro Torinese ( Piedmontese San Mò ) is a small town with 18,970 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont.

The municipality consists of the villages Pescatori, S. Anna, Oltre Po, Sambuy and San Mauro. The neighboring municipalities are Settimo Torinese, Castiglione Torinese, Turin and Baldissero Torinese.

Geography

The place is located 9 km from Turin, at an altitude of 211 m asl. The municipality covers an area of 12.55 km ².

History

The first written mention of Pulchra Rada ( the ancient name of San Mauro ) dated 4 May 991 On this day gave Anselmo, the former rulers of Montferrat, the task of rebuilding the destroyed in a Saracen invasion the monastery of the Benedictine monks.
