Santa Maria del CamÃ
Santa Maria del Cami is a municipality in the northwest of the island of Mallorca. It has 6,500 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013), of which 4455 live in the same place. In 2006, the foreigners in the community was 6.7 % ( 356), the proportion of German population 1.6% (84).

In Santa Maria, the whole year will be registered on rainfall. The driest month is July with an average of 9.3 l / m². The highest rainfall recorded in December to 95.5 l / m².
History
The origin of the small country town dates back to the Moors. But even before the Arab rule in Roman times this was the way of Palma to the old Pollentia, today's Alcúdia.
Santa Maria was the first rest stop on the way from Palma to the north. The strategic location of this town could have given the city its name. Santa Maria del Cami, that can be translated with " Saint Mary of the path " literally. In truth, the place is named after the chapel in La Garriga in Catalonia, which was under the auspices of the Santaeugenia family. Bernat de Santaeugenia, an important member of this family, was the first ruler of the area after the Catalan conquest of Mallorca and has been founded there the settlement name.
Economy and infrastructure
The economy of Santa Maria del Cami today is based among other things on the retail and on the production of concrete products for the construction industry. The Santamariers ( as the locals call it) have previously made a name for itself in the textile industry. It houses finds from the prehistory and early history of the island and objects of the Mallorcan customs and costumes of the 18th and 19th centuries.
Traffic
The municipal area is from the highway PM27 from Palma to Inca crosses (exit: Sencelles / Santa Maria). The old main road (now MA -13A ) from Palma to Inca runs through the capital.
