Sarzens is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Sarzens is located on 719 m above sea level. M., 17 km southwest of the district town Payerne ( straight line ). The small village extends on an inclined north knoll between the Broyetal and the valley of the Ruisseau des Vaux, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​1.5 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen between the mean Broye and the upper reaches of the Glane. Population

Economy

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1261 under the name Sarsens. The origin of the name is unclear. The name could go back to the Burgundian personal names Sarigîs or are in connection with the Saracens.

In the Middle Ages Sarzens belonged to the bishop of Lausanne, and came in the first half of the 15th century in the sphere of influence of the Dukes of Savoy. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Sarzens belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Moudon.
