Geography

Geographical location

The state-approved climatic health resort of Schoenau in the Black Forest is located in the upper meadow valley at the headwaters of the great meadow, surrounded by the elevations of the southern Black Forest, in 517-1309 meters above sea level.

More than 80 percent of the area is covered by forest.

History

Schönau was first mentioned in the year 1113. The location and surrounding area belonged to a community of heirs, which included among others, the Lords of Waldeck and Eichstetten. Through donations from the area came to the monastery of St. Blaise and thus leading Austria. 1805 came Schönau for newly created Grand Duchy of Baden. 1809 became Schönau city rights, which were denied her in 1936 and 1950 granted again.

Schönau by the federal highway 317 ( Weil am Rhein - Titisee -Neustadt ) linked to the national road network. The city was from 1889 to 1966 by the railway line cell in the meadow valley - Todtnau, a narrow gauge railway, connected to the national rail network.
